Observing the Sun reveals a yellowish region with temperatures around 5,500°C – known as the photosphere. When sunlight is dispersed across the electromagnetic spectrum, countless emission and absorption lines emerge, representing electron transitions within various atomic elements. The most prominent spectral lines in visible light originate from a narrow atmospheric stratum just beyond the visible surface called the chromosphere. Extending above this layer, the corona stretches across millions of kilometers and becomes detectable solely during celestial eclipses. Within this region, temperatures surge to one million degrees, causing most light emissions and spectral signatures to manifest in extreme ultraviolet or low-energy X-ray wavelengths.
